Types of Black Tea Powder

Black Matcha
Black matcha is ground from oxidized tea leaves - the same leaves traditionally crafted into black tea, now milled into a fine, drinkable powder. Its color is deeper, its aroma earthier, and its flavor carries a richness—mellow, malty, and slightly sweet—that grounds the spirit as much as it awakens.

Black Matcha Tea
Black tea powder is incredibly versatile, and even if it's not as widely recognized as its whole leaf counterpart, it's used in everything from cooking to the world of art! Did you know Japanese artists use it as a natural dye? The powder, mixed with water, creates a range of hues, turning tea into art!

Functions of Black Tea Powder

High in Antioxidants
Black matcha tea is rich in antioxidants, particularly polyphenols. These powerful compounds neutralize harmful free radicals in the body, reducing oxidative stress and potentially helping to prevent chronic conditions such as heart disease and cancer.

Enhances Heart Health
Consuming black matcha may contribute to heart health. Studies suggest that the polyphenols found in black tea can help lower LDL cholesterol levels and blood pressure, potentially reducing the risk of heart disease when combined with a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

Supports Gut Health
Black matcha, like other types of black tea, may have beneficial effects on gut health. The antimicrobial properties of black tea can influence gut bacteria, potentially improving digestion and overall gut health.

Boosts Energy Levels
Thanks to its caffeine content, black matcha provides a sustained energy boost. Unlike the sudden surge and crash associated with coffee, the energy boost from black matcha tends to be smoother and longer-lasting.

Improves Focus and Alertness
The combination of caffeine and L-theanine in black matcha can help improve focus, alertness, and cognitive performance. L-theanine promotes relaxation without drowsiness, leading to a calm but alert state that's ideal for productive work.

Supports Weight Management
Black tea can aid in weight management. These compounds are thought to boost metabolism and fat oxidation, potentially aiding in weight loss and maintenance when paired with a balanced diet and regular exercise.

Strengthens Immune System
Black matcha tea contains various bioactive compounds that can enhance the function of the immune system. A stronger immune system can better protect you from common illnesses and infections.

May Improve Skin Health
Black tea benefits for skin are real. In fact, black matcha is rich in antioxidants, which play a crucial role in maintaining skin health. These antioxidants combat inflammation and oxidative stress, both of which can contribute to premature aging and a variety of skin conditions. Therefore, regular consumption of black matcha could potentially help protect your skin and maintain its youthful appearance.

Aids in Oral Health
The polyphenols present in black matcha tea have been shown to inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria in the mouth, particularly Streptococcus mutans, a bacterium that causes tooth decay and gum disease. Therefore, consuming black matcha could potentially contribute to better oral health, although it should not replace regular brushing and flossing.

Promotes Bone Density
Certain bioactive compounds in black tea may have a positive effect on bone density. Though research in this area is ongoing and not entirely conclusive, some evidence indicates that regular consumption of black tea might be linked to a lower risk of osteoporosis and other bone-related health issues.

Storage Conditions of Black Tea Powder

An unopened container of matcha powder will stay freshest in the refrigerator. You'll want to enjoy your matcha sooner rather than later, as the distinct nuances in flavor begin to fade about 4-8 weeks after opening. Refrigeration is also a must to slow oxidation and prevent heat and humidity from altering the quality of your matcha powder.

We like to place our tins in ziplock bags that we keep in refrigerator door shelving away from strong odors. When it comes to making your tea, taking the tin of matcha out and letting it come to room temperature for about 20 minutes before enjoying it so your flavors aren't too muted by cold temps. Once you measure out your matcha to make your tea, be sure to screw the lid back on the tin and place it back in the fridge.
